The Key to Key West is....

Well by now you all know we are back, we survived Florida! Just barely, we almost didn't make it down there. Our plane got delayed for three hours and we missed our transfer in Atlanta. We ran around the airport trying to get any flight out to Florida and ended up catching the last flight out to West Palm Beach, we ended up with a dinner of sun chips and peanut butter crackers for dinner and having Wes's friend Drew picking us up at 1:00 a.m.

All that behind us we had a kick ass time! We drove to Miami to get our luggage the next morning and headed down to Key West. Drew's convertible is awesome, we drove with the top down for a ways.

When we arrived we found out that a transformer blew at our hotel and there was limited power, so they transferred us to an even better hotel!! We stayed right off Duval Street at the Almond Tree, we got free breakfast and even better....free Happy Hour!! We went to dinner at Alfonzo's and drank by the pool till 2:00! That is pretty late for Wes and I, but I think for Drew that was not all that late :)

Some of us (Drew) worked off their hangovers the next morning and opted to hang out at the pool. Wes and I went snorkeling, which was great except that my sea legs didn't hold up, but before hand we got to see lots of fish and huge blue jellyfish, cool, but kind of scary to swim around! That evening we went to Sarabeth's for great food and then the Blond Giraffe for Key Lime Pie, perfect desert for Key West!

The next morning I went out for an early morning walk, Wes and Drew slept in, it was nice to walk around Key West without tons of people about, just me, cats, lots of chickens and a dump truck....

We packed the car up and decided the best way to get around Key West was by bike, so biking we did! We rode out to the Southern Most point where there was a LINE to get your picture taken, we opted for a photo across the street with WooTraveler, so I guess that was not the Southern most point, but ehh, close enough. We then rode past the Hemingway House and went to the beach at the park, there was a $1.50 fee to get in, but well worth it, there was a fort to ride around and a public beach, we hung out for just a bit cause it was super hot.

We then rode to the notorious Kino Sandal Shop I dragged Wes and Drew in search of the night before (not open then) But that day we were in luck, I bought two pairs of handmade sandals, really cheap and made in the "traditional Cuban way" Very comfortable. We ate lunch at Red Fish Blue Fish, with chickens, WooTraveler tried to communicate but there was just nothing going on in this chickens head! After lunch we headed out of Key West to drive up to South Beach. More on that part of the journey later!
